Is chocolate allowed on the keto diet?

The short answer? Yes! While most commercial chocolate is not right for a low carb or ketogenic diet, there are a couple of chocolate options that are completely keto-friendly. The key is to steer clear of the regular commercial chocolate (the primary ingredient is usually sugar). Instead, opt for dark chocolate that contains a minimum of 70% cocoa solids.

What kind of chocolate is keto-friendly?

As mentioned above, you’re going to want to look for dark chocolate that is a minimum of 70% cocoa solids. And, this probably comes as no surprise: your chocolate should be 100% unsweetened.

Your other option, if you absolutely need your chocolate a little sweeter, is to look for stevia-sweetened dark chocolate. I’ve tested this type of chocolate in a few of my recipes and the results were great. No one could even tell my sweet treats were low carb!
